Proven Results

An Emerson Impact Partner's customer saves money by reducing carbon footprint & enhances safety with Emerson low bleed instruments. Offshore oil facilities spend a considerable amount of money on the generation of instrument air. There is cost associated with the power (which is often scarce in these facilities) consumed to run the compressors, maintenance on the compressors, manpower, etc. In addition many facilities don’t have the power or resources to generate instrument air. In these facilities the use of “instrument gas” is common. This is the use of the header gas being produced to operate pneumatic instruments. The venting of this gas by pneumatic instruments costs production as well as adds significantly to the carbon emissions. It also creates several safety concerns, especially in enclosed work spaces.

Quantification of the results of this effort was greatly simplified by the use of Emerson’s Energy Responsible Tool. This is a program that allows direct comparison of the low-bleed instruments to the older, higher bleed counterparts. The customer was able to save money on generation of Instrument Air and Instrument Gas. They reduced Carbon Emissions by reducing the venting of Instrument Gas and replaced antiquated instruments in the process. They upgraded to state-of-the-art instruments and lowered venting of hydrocarbons which increased the safety of their facility.
